With a desire to better see relationships and research opportunities, we developed a three-dimensional framework and environment for visually modeling genealogical data. Inspired by 3D modeling software and tools, the format allows one to see all of their family relationships in a complete model and visually analyze the data underneath those relationships.
The name Cairnica is derived from the word cairn. A cairn is a stack of stones erected as a visual marker to guide travelers or memorialize a person or event. Cairnica Trees are a visualization of family relationships using a series of markers to not only guide people through their family relationships. Cairnica is an environment for modeling and navigating Cairnica Trees.
